Description
  • EXPLORE HOW POLLUTED WATER IS TREATED || Develop knowledge of the processes performed at a water treatment plant and understand the purpose for each process
  • ENGAGING ACTIVITY || The experiment included in this kit allows learners to re-create, on a small scale, the procedures that occur in a water treatment plant on "polluted" water
  • EXCELLENT FOR REMOTE LEARNING || Great for Distance Learning and home schooling - kit includes instruction manual, worksheets and enough materials for 5 groups. Makes an exciting home science project!
  • MATERIALS INCLUDED || Kit includes fine sand, coarse sand, fine gravel, activated charcoal, potassium aluminum sulfate (alum), calcium oxide (lime), kaolin clay powder, green food coloring, white vinegar, plastic cups and stirring sticks

This kit allows learners to examine the processes performed at a water treatment plant and understand the reasons for each process. They will perform, on a small-scale, several of the procedures that occur in a water treatment plant on "polluted" water. They will examine the changes in the water after each treatment step is performed. They will also observe physical characteristics of water, such as clarity, color, odor, and how they are affected from the beginning of the treatment process until the end.
This kit contains enough material for 5 groups. Teacher's Manual and Student Study Guide copymasters are included.

Great for distance learning and home schooling - kit includes Teacher's (or Parent's) Instruction Manual, safety data sheets, student guide and worksheet copymasters.

Kit Includes:

  • 500g Fine Sand
  • 500g Coarse Sand
  • 500g Fine Gravel
  • 100g Activated Charcoal
  • 10g Potassium Aluminum Sulfate (Alum)
  • 10g Calcium Oxide (Lime)
  • 5g Kaolin (Clay) Powder
  • 2ml Green Food Coloring
  • 10ml White Vinegar
  • 25 Plastic Cups
  • 5 Stirring Sticks

Required Materials (not included): Container (approx. 1-2 liters or larger), miscellaneous materials to prepare "untreated water" (such as potting soil, lawn clippings, crushed leaves, twigs or mulch), sharp item to poke small holes in cups for filtration

Innovating Science Small Group Learning kits are designed to offer engaging activities and educational content to for teachers to use with small groups or to distribute to remote students, or for parents with learners at home. Kits incorporate applied math and science principles into home school and distance learning projects.
