Description
  • Kit for building understanding of nanotechnology, and nanomaterial, ferrofluid, and other applications in modern technology
  • Activities for creating magnetite nanoparticles through precipitation reaction, while using surfactant to create colloidal suspension of magnetite nanoparticles (ferrofluid)
  • Ferrofluid will demonstrate interesting patterns and movement upon exposure to a magnet
  • Kit is designed for grades 6-12 and should be performed under adult supervision
  • Kit includes detailed instructions, student study guide copymasters, and safety data sheets for included materials

This chemistry kit from Innovating Science allows students to explore the synthesis of ferrofluid, demonstrating concepts of nanotechnology, nanomaterials, and their applications in modern technology. Students will form magnetite nanoparticles from materials in the kit, then hold them in colloidal suspensions using the included surfactant. Once in suspension, the ferrofluid can be manipulated using a magnet to form interesting patterns and move against gravity. This kit provides enough material for 15 groups of students, and includes detailed instructions, student guide copymasters, and safety data sheets for all included materials.

Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Science education projects include a broad range of activities, such as practical experiments in engineering, aeronautics, robotics, energy, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology.

Innovating Science products, manufactured by Aldon Corporation, include educational kits for the chemistry, life science, green chemistry, advanced placement chemistry, and forensic fields. Aldon Corporation was founded in 1964, and is headquartered in Avon, NY.
