Description
  • IDEAL FOR STUDYING GAS SPECTRA || A 26cm spectrum tube placed into the Power Supply will emit gas discharge spectral lines which can be analyzed with a spectrometer. NOTE: spectrum tubes and spectrometers not included
  • MEETS ELECTRICAL SAFETY STANDARDS || 5000-volt Spectrum Tube Power Supply is CE, CSA, and CUS approved
  • EASY TO LOAD & UNLOAD || Tube sockets are spring loaded for easy placement and removal of 26cm spectrum tubes, and are shielded to protect user against accidental contact
  • NO AMBIENT LIGHT INTERFERENCE || Flat black finish over entire power supply eliminates ambient light from effecting experimental outcomes and spectra
  • SIMPLIFIED OPERATION || An on/off toggle switch with pilot light is built into the 15"H x 4.75"W x 3.5"D unit. Includes a 6-foot grounded power cord

The primary use of this safe, economical and fun spectrum tube power supply is to provide a view of gas discharge spectral lines that can be viewed with something as simple as a diffraction grating, to as complicated and digital spectrometers. Studying these spectra and understanding the basic science behind it is a fundamental principle taught from middle school physical science, to high school chemistry and physics, to college level chemistry, physics and quantum mechanics. Students will be engaged with curiosity as they begin to witness and understand the discrete quantitative energy levels seen by the spectra emitted by exacting gas tubes in the power supply. One of the most famous experiments to do with the spectrum tube power supply is calculating and then quantitatively measuring the Balmer Series of Hydrogen. Several different types of gas tubes are available for use with this power supply, such as: hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, neon, carbon dioxide, argon, xenon, iodine vapor, oxygen, air, and krypton. Spectrum tubes are NOT INCLUDED.

Size: 15"H x 4.75"W x 3.5"D. Power: 110/120VAC, 60Hz.
